Gemma Bartlett & Thomas Bartlett
This creative couple embarked on a journey together. Gem and Tom shared many walks, conversations and notes whilst visiting Roath Park. This inspired both to create separate pieces of works which involved photographically questioning the area from two alternative perspectives.
Gemma’s work questions our perception of reality. During the project she became interested in cropping shadowed areas from Google Earth. Her interest in light and composition of these images led her to photograph similar images of the shadows at Roath Park. The layout of her photographs offers the viewer an opportunity to realise or ‘second look’ what they are actually seeing.
Thomas’s interests for this project were to photograph from the inside of Roath Parks most hidden areas. Peering out from these points, he photographed the people and their surroundings. This inward stance (from the position of the photographer) looking outward approach offers us a document of the lives of others in this place.
